UP Yoddha registered a 39-35 win over Telugu Titans, ending their four-match losing streak in their Pro Kabaddi Season 8 match at Sheraton Grand, Whitefield in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Surender Gill picked up his seventh super 10 of the season with 12 raid points, while Shrikant Jadhav bagged nine raid points, anchoring UP Yoddha’s win. Sumit provided support in the defence department with three tackle points.
For Telugu Titans, Rajnish top-scored with 13 raid points, bringing up his fourth super 10 of PKL 8. Ankit Beniwal secured six raid points while Sandeep Kandola bagged three tackle points.
With this win, UP Yoddha moved to the sixth position on the PKL points table with 47 points.
UP Yoddha took a 6-3 lead in the first five minutes with a do-or-die raid from Pardeep and a multi-point raid from Surender Gill, bringing Telugu Titans down to just three men.
However, Sandeep Kandola super-tackled Gill, and the Titans scripted a comeback to take an 11-7 lead at the 10th minute. Three minutes later, UP Yoddha had not just equalised the Titans’ score but had also inflicted an all-out, to go up 15-12.
Soon, a multi-point raid from Rajnish brought the Titans to 16-all and as the clock approached half-time, UP Yoddha were handed their all-out. The Titans led the first half 22-18.
Both teams moved in one-point increments before a two-point raid from Ankit Beniwal took the Titans to 26-21. Two minutes later, Shrikant Jadhav returned that favour, bringing the scorecard to 26-all.
Telugu Titans, down to Prince and Galla Raju, wrestled Surender Gill off the mat for a super tackle, taking a 29-26 lead. A two-point do-or-die raid from Adarsh not only cost UP Yoddha both their corners but also gave the Titans a 33-27 lead.
With UP Yoddha down to three men, Surender Gill’s three consecutive successful raids closed the gap for UP Yoddha to 33-34, with two minutes on the clock.
In the next minute, UP Yoddha reduced the Titans to a lone man, Prince, before inflicting a second all-out on them. With just over a minute left, UP Yoddha were up 37-34.
UP Yoddha finished off with a 39-35 win over Telugu Titans, with Surender Gill picking his fifth super 10 in the last eight games.
UP Yoddha will next play Dabang Delhi K.C on Sunday.
