In a clash that went down to the wire, left corner Sumit’s high-5 helped UP Yoddha draw 28-all against U Mumbai at Sheraton Grand, Whitefield in Bengaluru on Saturday.
Surender Gill was the top raider for UP Yoddha with seven raid points, while Sumit managed six tackle points for his second high-5 of the season. Pardeep Narwal was contained to an uncharacteristic four raid points.
V Ajith Kumar led the raiding department for U Mumba with nine raid points while their defence was bolstered by Rahul Sethpal and Rinku’s four tackle points each.
The teams started slow and until the 18th minute into the first half, neither had taken a lead of over two points in the match.
With the scores level at 11-all, U Mumba were reduced to a single man. But Ajith Kumar’s super raid followed by a super tackle against Pardeep Narwal took U Mumba to 16-12 in the 18th minute.
The first half ended with UP Yoddha trailing 13-16 with Sumit managing an impressive four tackle points against U Mumba but was left wanting for support.
U Mumba raced ahead to 18-14 in the second half, but UP Yoddha soon caught up at 19-all after inflicting a U-Mumba all-out with a clinical tackle from Ashu.
Sumit brought up his ninth Pro Kabaddi League high-5 against in-form raider Ajith Kumar with a calculated ankle hold, reducing the score deficit by a point.
With the scores levelled at 21-all, Surender Gill went for the kill and successfully executed a super raid that gave UP Yoddha a three-point lead at, their highest of the game.
However, U Mumba fought back and the teams managed to score toe-to-toe until 26-all with under three minutes to go.
They scored a point each every minute, with the match ending at 28-all, giving the teams three points each. For both teams, this was the second tie of Pro Kabaddi Season 8.
With this tie, UP Yoddha have now pocketed 13 points and have moved to the fifth position of the PKL points table. U Mumba, with 17 points, are in third place.
UP Yoddha will play Tamil Thalaivas next on Tuesday.
