U.P. Yoddhas, the GMR Group-owned franchise, shared the spoils in a thrilling 37-37 tie with table-toppers Bengal Warriors in Pro Kabaddi 2023-24. For U.P. Yoddhas, Super Raider Surender Gill starred with an exceptional 18-point top-class performance, earning nearly half the points for his team in this low-scoring encounter. Meanwhile, all-rounders Vijay Malik and Gurdeep made seven and three points, respectively. U.P. Yoddhas are now placed fifth in the points table with 15 points to their kitty.
U.P. Yoddhas will now face Jaipur Pink Panthers in Pune on December 20, 2023. The match will be telecast LIVE & exclusively on Star Sports Network and can be streamed LIVE on Disney Hotstar from 08:00 p.m. (IST) onwards.
The game began with Bengal Warriors winning the toss and inviting U.P. Yoddhas to raid. Bengal Warriors drew first blood, but Surender Gill returned with a three-point super raid to give U.P. Yoddhas a 3-1 lead immediately. The game after that was a neck-to-neck battle between both teams. However, U.P. Yoddhas always maintained their slender lead throughout. U.P. Yoddhas, who played out smartly, earning points through successful raids, tackles and bonus points, wrapped up the first half with an 18-14 lead over the Bengal Warriors.
The second half began with the Warriors pressing hard from the first second, and they reduced their deficit to just one point with the scoreboard reading 18-17 still in favour of the Yoddhas. U.P. Yoddhas, however, came back with a super tackle and four bonus points immediately after but could not avoid their first All-Out of the match in the 8th minute of the second half. At this moment, both the teams were level par at 24 points each.
Hereon, Surender Gill returned with a scintillating three-point super raid followed by a two-point multi-point raid to help the Yoddhas race back ahead and inflict the first All-Out on Bengal Warriors with just five minutes left in the match with the scoreboard reading 35-30 to the formers favour.
However, the game hereafter saw U.P. Yoddhas committing a few unforced errors that resulted in the match ending in a 37-37 draw, with both teams sharing three points each.
