Dubai Capitals, owned by the GMR Group, claimed a seven-wicket win against the Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in match 22 of ILT20 2023 at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium on Monday, January 30.

Upon winning the toss, the Capitals elected to bowl first. While Niroshan Dickwella and George Munsey were handed debuts, Dubai Capitals retained Adam Zampa after his splendid debut in the previous game. The Knight Riders, meanwhile, made a solitary replacement to their playing XI as Matiullah Khan came in as an extra bowling option.

Hazrat Luqman made the early breakthrough for Dubai Capitals as he grabbed the wickets of Paul Stirling (0, 1.3 overs) and Dhananjaya de Silva (7, 4.6 overs). The latter dismissal, however, was a timely respite as Luqman had conceded 20 runs while bowling the fifth over.

After powering Abu Dhabi Knight Riders past the 60-run mark, half-centurion Joe Clark (52) was the next to depart.

He was one of Adam Zampa's three victims as the Aussie spinner also dismissed Brandon King (7, 9.2 overs) and Zawar Farid (6, 11.4 overs) in his four overs.

Sunil Narine's late cameo of 23 in 13 balls helped the Knight Riders push for a first-innings score of 149/9. Along the way, Akif Raja (2/23) and Sikandar Raza (1/33) were the other Capitals bowlers to claim wickets.

Chasing 150, debutants Niroshan Dickwella and George Munsey stitched a 57-run partnership for the opening wicket until the former was dismissed for 37 by Akeal Hosein.

Dasun Shanaka's 22-ball 28 set the tone for Munsey to complete his half-century.

Skipper Rovman Powell struck a 14-ball 21 to oversee Dubai Capitals complete the run chase in style and power his side to a seven-wicket win with 14 balls to spare.

Lahiru Kumara, Andre Russell and Akeal Hosein were the only bowlers from the Knight Riders to take wickets, as the team fell to a seventh defeat in eight ILT20 games.
